The Machiavellian Interim

Pragmatic Frameworks // 10 Operational Principles
Absolute Measure 01
Men Must Be Either Pampered or Completely Crushed. If you are going to cross someone, the injury must be so absolute that you do not need to fear their revenge. Half-measures only breed future threats.
Optics vs. Action 02
Master the Illusion of Virtue. A leader must appear merciful and faithful to the public. However, they must maintain a mind so flexible that if the situation requires cruelty, they can pivot instantly without hesitation.
Dread Mechanics 03
It is Better to Be Feared Than Loved. Love is a bond of obligation broken whenever it benefits human self-interest. Fear is highly reliable, held together continuously by the dread of punishment.
Hatred Avoidance 04
Avoid Hatred at All Costs. Fear maintains order, but hatred sparks rebellion. To avoid systemic collapse, a leader must absolutely keep their hands off the property and inheritance of their subjects.
Temporal Deployment 05
Execute Cruelty Swiftly, Distribute Benefits Slowly. Commit necessary terrible acts all at once so the shock fades into a new normal. Distribute rewards incrementally so they are continuously tasted and appreciated.
Self-Reliance 06
Rely Only on Your Own Arms. Never outsource your core security. Mercenaries and auxiliary troops are useless and dangerous; relying on borrowed strength makes you a hostage to their terms.
State Adaptability 07
Adapt Your Nature to the Times. A leader who rigidly sticks to one strategy will be ruined when the era changes. Be cautious when the times demand caution, and aggressive when they demand action.
Binary Alignment 08
Never Remain Neutral in a Conflict. If two powerful forces clash, pick a side. Neutrality invites contempt from the victor and offers no refuge from the loser.
Base Optimization 09
Build Your Foundation on the People. Elites desire to oppress and control; they are inherently dangerous. The masses simply desire not to be oppressed, providing a much larger, more stable foundational base.
Trajectory Adjustment 10
Aim High to Hit the Target. Study history and imitate great figures. Like a smart archer aiming above a distant target, elevate your aim to ensure your efforts actually reach the necessary mark.
