Rubik's Cube: The Simple Way

Standard Position

Before you make any moves, you need to hold the cube correctly. Always start with yellow facing up toward the ceiling, and red facing directly at you.

The Righty Move

  1. Turn the right side of the cube up.
  2. Push the top layer toward the left.
  3. Turn the right side of the cube back down.
  4. Push the top layer back toward the right.

The Lefty Move

mirrors the righty.

  1. Up: Turn the left side of the cube up.
  2. Push the top layer toward the right.
  3. Down: Turn the left side of the cube back toward you down.
  4. push the top layer back toward the left.

Mission: White Cross

The White Cross becomes the floor. The side pieces must match the walls.

Mission: Corner White Floor Pieces

Find a corner piece with a WHITE sticker on the top floor (the yellow ceiling).

Spin the top floor until that corner piece hovers exactly between its two matching color walls.

Turn the whole cube so that corner piece sits at the top-right, closest to you.

Do the Righty repeatedly until the white sticker locks into the floor.

Mission: Solving the Middle Floor

You have all your bottom "Ts" built and the yellow ceiling is facing up. It is time to slot the edge pieces into the middle layer.

  1. Find a top piece with no yellow on it.
  2. Align the side color of this piece with its matching wall (creating a tall line).
  3. Look at the top color of that piece to find its "home" wall (it will be your left or right wall).
  4. Move the top layer AWAY from its home wall.
  5. Notice which direction you just pushed the top layer:
    • If you moved it LEFT, follow Path A.
    • If you moved it RIGHT, follow Path B.

Path A (You pushed left)

  1. Do ONE Righty move.
  2. Turn the whole cube to the right, facing the home wall.
  3. Do ONE Lefty move.

Path B (You pushed right)

  1. Do ONE Lefty move.
  2. Turn the whole cube to the left, facing the home wall.
  3. Do ONE Righty move.
Mission: Yellow Cross

(Ignore the corners completely)

1. Getting the side pieces set:

How many yellow side pieces on the yellow face?

2. Turn front once clockwise

3. Righty

4. Turn front once counter-clockwise

Mission: Edge Swap

1. Swap Prep: Turn the ceiling so that sides match their home walls as much as possible.

2. Edge Swap Sequence:

Mission: Position Top Corners

1. Home Check: Find corners matching their 3 wall colors.

Mission: Final Twist

SETUP SHIFT: Flip cube upside down (White UP, Yellow DOWN).

1. Move unsolved yellow corner to Bottom-Right-Front.

2. Do Righties until yellow sticker points DOWN.

3. Rotate ONLY yellow layer to bring next unsolved corner to Bottom-Right-Front.

4. Repeat Righties until all yellow stickers face down.
